New Years Resolutions, The Miniature Edition

Well, its the last day of 2009. This year has been interesting for me on many fronts, not a great year, but not really a bad one either. On the miniature & gaming front, a number of good things happened... [read more]

CAV Infantry Upgrades Part I

When I think about infantry in CAV, I can’t help but feel that there’s something missing. A recon unit, perhaps? This got me thinking about other infantry units and upgrades that could be fun, so I decided to write some of these up and share them.

This is the first of two or three articles. I haven’t playtested these yet, so they are completely unproven. I welcome any feedback. Especially, playtest feedback. After we’ve all had some time to try these, I’ll repost a page with all of the new rules in one place. I’ll also be adding these to the Task Force Builder with some kind of switch to turn off the optional rules... [read more]

A Big New Update

I’ve made a big change here at the CAV Command Console – we now have a new domain name. http://www.cavcomcon.com is our official new URL. The old domain, which even I had trouble typing, is still active – it just redirects here. So, any bookmarks or rss feeds you may have should still work. I don’t have any plans to change that, but I don’t make any promises to keep it around either. So switch as soon as you can.

I’ve made a few other minor changes as well... [read more]

The CWC Warthog

CWC Warthog

When assembling their armory, the Core World engineers found that they lacked critical parts or supplies for certain CAVs. Most of these components were re-engineered into heavy CAVs, this being far more affordable than purchasing them. The remaining parts were then used to build approximations of whatever happened to be in short supply. In one such case, a CWC commander found himself in possession of several KDM Jaguars sans several key systems, most notably their PBGs... [read more]

New Experimental Print Sheet

After getting a little feedback, I’ve put up an experimental control sheet. This sheet does not break up the data cards by section, instead it will pack up to 6 on a page sorted by alphabetical order... [read more]

Site Development Updates

There haven’t been many updates to the site lately, some minor bug fixes is all. I’ve got a handful of improvements in progress, but I got a little stuck. The upgrade menus were getting large with the EST/2 and EST/3 listed as separate rows. As I looked to add Avenger and the Piercing and Shredder upgrades this looked to get ridiculous. I want to make the upgrades like this have submenus to select the levels... [read more]

What is CAVComCon All About

Back in January I finally got sick of creating CAV Task Forces. Cross referencing between sheets of data cards, a spreadsheet to keep track of points and abilities, and then keeping track of data cards during a game was just too much hassle. Additionally, I’m a Mac guy so the spreadsheet that I’ve seen others use wasn’t very helpful, either... [read more]

Task Force: The Adonese Swarm

One particularly effective use of the Adon arsenal is the vehicle swarm. Due to their characteristically low DVs, Adon models do not become significantly tougher as they increase in cost. This makes key models in the force painfully vulnerable; this style of list eliminates that issue entirely. The Adonese have superb light-medium vehicles, namely the Scarab, Wasp, and Hornet. To round out this style of army, open market recon vehicles and aircraft are ideal. Here are a couple versions of this force:.. [read more]

CAV: A Kid's Perspective

As an 11 year old I think it is fun to play CAV because you get to fight other people, and build and paint your own CAVs! You usually play on a large table because you need room too play the game. My friend and I built a large table in the basement on a day off from school. We used an old closet door for the top and some scrap wood for a bottom shelf... [read more]
